Who has the right to rest? This question was the focus of the project Rest is Resistance by Zoe Gudović, which was shown in Floridsdorf on 6th of May 2023. The more precarious the living conditions, the more “rest” becomes a luxury good. The right to leisure time was fought for by workers. But in times of platform economies and a hyper-liberalization of the labour market, things like vacation and sick pay have once again become a privilege. Do we still believe that we have the right to rest? Am I worth anything if I am not productive? These were the questions addressed by the artists Ah Ahilej, Hor 29 Novembar, DJ Kojo, Xéna N. C., La Washa, Maracatu Nossa Luz, Feminist* Bloco Descolonial, Topoke and Drag King “Zed Zeldich Zed”, who came together for a “Toilet Spectacle” that culminated in a shared meditation to the sound of jackhammers.
