“Raqsouna – make us dance!” is an event series that goes beyond the traditional party concept, redefines and expands the culture of celebration. Knowing that marginalised groups, are still being discriminated in the Night-Life Culture of Austria, not only through not giving entrance to the spaces, but also through the concept of partying, the music and many other reasons, it is an interface between art, politics and society.
Our aim is to create access for the community by organizing actions such as “Togetherness” – that are part of the identity of our event, where we bring people and groups together before the event, in order to lower the inhibition threshold for participation in advance.
The music, the spaces and the care we create are here to empower, foster self-confidence and create a distinct sense of connection through dancing, laughter, sometimes grief and togetherness, transcending generations with a focus on the culture of the SWANA Region.
We draw from various Arab, Amazighi, Kurdish, among many more identities. “Raqsouna” is until now only being funded through the community through showing up, the ticketing and helping out, thus each one of us can shape this event. We celebrate the BIPOC Diaspora in Vienna through setting an actively and ever evolving caring space. We have done about 14 events in the past two years, collaboration with collectives and musicians in Vienna and abroad.
